Same Obstacles, New PerspectiveTampa, Florida Martin Jaybrek takes the reins as the new owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Declaring "This team will stay in Tampa!" After a brief press conference Mr. Jaybrek's outlook for the franchise seemed optimistic as he promised to keep the team in Tampa. As for now there have been no immediate decisions made, but Mr. Jaybrek assured the public that he would do what it takes to get this team on track. Mr. Jaybrek stated, "Fans in the Tampa area welcome the team like they welcome a nose bleed." He went on to say, "This team deserves to win and needs the support of its fans." He was very intent on developing a prestigious following referencing New York and the Yankees. As for now he made a few promises, labeling "franchise" players. Middle linebacker Barrett Ruud, free safety Tanard Jackson, and cornerback Aqib Talib. Mr. Jaybrek said "I like what I see and I want these guys to be the new face of the Bucs defense. I want them to be household names." Mr. Jaybrek added this on his way out to his car, "Go Bucs, pound that rock!" Ruud out, Manning in.Tampa, Florida The first and possibly the most drastic decision was made by owner Martin Jaybrek this week as Barrett Ruud, Josh Freeman, and a third round draft pick were traded for Eli Manning and Chris Chambers. Fans cried outrage after Mr. Jaybrek promised to keep Barrett Ruud in Tampa, saying "I want them to be the new face of the Buccaneers defense." Mr. Jaybrek replied saying "You have to make drastic calls to build a good franchise and our defense will be fine. Eli is a strong leader and will be welcomed here. Chris Chambers is a move we made to help with our receiving game." The support for this move is spotty at best and Martin Jaybrek is only a week into his position and fans have him on thin ice, and ice melts fast in the Florida sun. Mr. Jaybrek insisted that people should relax and welcome Eli with open arms. Manning, who will arrive at training camp later this week seemed eager to get things rolling and get to know the offense. The Little Brother That CouldTampa, Florida Eli Manning showed up for a dress rehearsal this afternoon and looked great doing it. A small scrimmage game against the Buccaneers defense had Manning feeling confident. Owner Martin Jaybrek said, "That's good enough for now." Head coach Raheem Morris has enjoyed the presence of an experienced quarterback and hopes that Eli can help him keep the team on track. A Hard WinTampa, Florida The Bucs hosted the Cleveland Browns in a down to the wire shoot out at Raymond James Stadium. Eli Manning and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers squeaked by Colt McCoy and the Cleveland Browns in overtime. The sluggish to start Bucs looked miserable and weak in the first quarter. Eli showed his staying power and proved to the fans that he was worth the trouble. Here are the video highlights of the game. Showing why they are "franchised" players Aqib Talib and Tanard Jackson each had interceptions at crucial moments in the game. Aqib Talib picks off Colt McCoy in the third quarter to stop a scoring drive. Tanard Jackson gets a pick for the team that lead to a game tying touchdown drive. Martin Jaybrek was pleased with how well the team played saying, "They looked a little sluggish but held themselves together. Teams that win the close ones are teams that win the big ones." How did Eli do? Eli Manning doesn't get any style points for his first performance in a Bucs uniform but he put up solid numbers. 216 Yards 2 Touchdowns 1 Interception 12 Complete 36 Attempts Completing only a quarter of his passes may not prove to valuable in the weeks to come but it worked this week against the Browns. Bucs get Antonio Pierce & a hometown hero.Tampa, Florida Antonio Pierce Trae Williams The Buccaneers signed two free agents today including linebacker Antonio Pierce along with Durant High School and South Florida Alumni Trae Williams. Playing in the same stadium he played college football in. Hopefully these familiar halls will be a proving ground for Williams. Martin Jaybrek was happy to hear of Antonio Pierce's decision. Mr. Jaybrek and his team have been hard at work trying to get him and now they've brought him aboard. An easy decision to replace linebacker Barret Ruud after he was traded for Eli Manning this past off-season. "Trae and Antonio will be great additions to the team." Mr. Jaybrek said before he was hurried off for a press conference. Bucs Come Up ShortCharlotte, North Carolina The Bucs fell 7 points short of defeating NFC South rival Carolina this past week 21-27. A sloppy game for the two offenses for the most part the Buccaneers looked like grade school kids being bullied by truck drivers. Although the Panthers defense stepped in and played a good game. Especially across the middle. Dropping linebackers into coverage created problems for Eli Manning who threw 3 interceptions and 3 touchdowns. The Buccaneers defense created a few turnovers that the offense failed to capitalize on. Trailing in the second quarter 20-0. A steady but late performance in the late third and fourth quarter wasn't enough to keep a mark from the losing bracket. At 1-1 owner Martin Jaybrek feels there's nothing to worry about saying only, "We're rebuilding. These guys need to get to know one anothers style a little more. So hold on to the champaign I don't think we'll need it for a bit." The chivalry of the Panthers players and staff was applauded by Mr. Jaybrek who said, "Class act. They out played us and won with style." For now the Buccaneers will work harder on the running game and keeping the ball in hands of the receivers. One fan said, "How much are the Panthers paying Superman? Their linebackers caught more passes than our receivers." Mr. Jaybrek is still standing firm on his decision to bring Eli Manning to the organization. Free agent picked up last week, Antonio Pierce proved worth while 8 tackles and a knock down and a few near sacks. We'll see what the Bucs bring us in the next few weeks before we start the criticizing. Bucs Still in a Slump!Tamp, Florida Even with one of the Manning brothers playing for our city and a new enthusiastic owner, the Buccaneers of Tampa just couldn't get it done. The Steelers looked like world class athletes this past week against a star hungry Bucs team. Eli putting up a few picks. Cadillac dropping a few balls. Tampa is in need of star player. The player Eli manning was supposed to be. "I'm sticking by my decision, Eli will be fine here we just need to get that rhythm." Martin Jaybrek commented on his team. The Buccaneers fall to 1-2 and drop to the bottom of the NFC South division with a loss at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers 38-10.
