Well week 6 proved one thing, nothing is ever predictable in this crazy league. Despite a lot of high scoring games, I will attempt, key word "attempt" to predict the following games.
vs
Analysis:
The Steelers are one of only two teams left now who are undefeated, granted, they had a bye week last week. However, it doesn't mask the fact that the Steelers are rolling so far this season and no one looks to be in their way, period. The Browns picked up their first win of the season last week after a series of heart breaking loses through the first few weeks. The Browns, unfortunately aren't a good team and it will show this week, clearly.
Prediction:
Steelers make a mockery out of their division foes, 35-3, Pittsburgh
vs
Analysis:
The Saints and the Bucs are the second combo of teams in the same division to win a super bowl in the same division in the first decade of the new millennium. Since 2003 however, the Bucs have been anything but champions. So is the case this year as they stand feebly next to the Saints who are 4-1 this season. The Saints crushed the opposition last week putting up 52 points to the Cardinals' 17. The Bucs lost 27-14 at the hands of the Bengals.
Prediction:
The Bucs just aren't good enough to beat the Saints this year, obviously. Saints roll, 42-10, New Orleans
vs
Analysis:
The Packers are improving weekly this year. Their record has now reached 4-1, and the team is looking solid as a rock. Last week, they even surprised me, beating the Redskins like a drum to the tune of 41-21. They face the Dolphins who didn't play last week but the last time they took the field, upset the Patriots 23-17 in overtime. The Dolphins have a great running game but I don't think that will do it to keep pace with the Packers' offense.
Prediction:
Packers cruise, 23-10, Green Bay
vs
Analysis:
I don't think it's a big secret that the Chargers are fuming after their upset loss to Oakland who scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to comeback and win 55-54. The Rams come off an easy victory over the Lions, 55-41 but are going to run into a freight train this week. They may be able to put up big numbers on the Lions but the Chargers are not playing games this week.
Prediction:
The Rams get de-horned in this one, 56-7, San Diego
vs
Analysis:
The Ravens, 3-2, are trying to keep pace in their division with the Steelers and Bengals. This is their chance to close the gap on second place where the Bengals sit 4-1. The Patriots stand in their way, a team coming off a bye week and whose last game was a loss to the Dolphins in overtime. Did I mention they're 1-3? The Ravens are riding a wave of confidence after defeating the Broncos 35-21, and that score is misleading as to how very put-away this game was for Baltimore.
Prediction:
The Patriots have no answer for the Ravens' defense, 28-14, Baltimore
vs
Analysis:
The Chiefs were trampled by the Colts last week in an embarrassing loss, 41-14. Only 6 yards of passing offense could be to blame for that, or it could be the 3 turnovers. The point is, the Chiefs showed they're not a very good team last week. The Texans are quietly proving their capable of winning with just pure offense after beating the Giants 33-29. Against the Chiefs, I think they'll be able to do the same.
Prediction:
The Texans run with it, 42-28, Houston
vs
Analysis:
At times the Lions show great flashes of brilliance against their opponents putting up monstrous numbers offensively, however that is usually accompanied by poor defense. If the Lions can sure up on the defensive side of the ball, they may be capable of beating some really good teams. The Giants are a bit of a mystery on the other hand. Last week they lost to the Texans and fell to 2-3 on the season. Their defense has let them down on many occasions and can be left the blame for their sub-par season.
Prediction:
The Lions win, 28-24, Detroit
vs
Analysis:
Finally, the game we've been waiting for since Vick was signed to the Eagles, the Atlanta versus Philly game. Mike Vick goes back to his former team to battle it out and see who truly came out better. The Falcons aren't doing to hot this season, only 1-3 while the Eagles are sitting pretty at 4-1, in second place behind Dallas for the division. The Eagles are a force to be reckoned with this season and look to fly past the Falcons this upcoming week. I think they're able to run the ball as well against Atlanta to soften the secondary.
Prediction:
Eagles soar, 35-17. Philadelphia
vs
Analysis:
The Seahawks are at .500 so far this season and hope they can improve that record against the ailing Bears this week who are a dismal 0-5. They had a bye week but the last time we saw them they posted a 40-37 win over the Rams. This week they'll be facing an even lower quality of opponent and will be able do as they please.
Prediction:
The bad teams rarely beat the good ones , so is the case in this one, 38-10, Seattle
vs
Analysis:
Oakland shocked just about everyone last week after beating San Diego in a 20-point rally in the fourth quarter. They looked very impressive, shutting out the Chargers in the 4th while their offense wen to work for them. The 49ers had an impressive game of their own despite coming out on the other side of it. A game-winning field goal is what separated the Eagles from the 49ers last week so the Niners have nothing to be ashamed of.
Prediction:
The Raiders were very impressive last week but I don't think they were the better team last week and won't be this week either, 28-27, 49ers
vs
Analysis:
The Jets definitely surprised me by winning last week against Minnesota in the game of the week. After going into the fourth quarter with a tied score the Jets some how managed to pull out an amazing victory. The Broncos looked a little shaky in their loss to the Ravens. Unable to run the ball at all.
Prediction:
The Broncos struggle against another great defense, 31-20, New York
vs
Analysis:
The Cowboys are the other undefeated team in the NFL and the only one in the NFC. They have been phenomenal against the competition and their closest game was week one against the Redskins winning, 28-27. The Vikings lost their first game last week as noted above to the Jets in a game which New York was trailing pretty much the whole game. They were able to run but simply couldn't stop the passing attack, surprisingly, of Mark Sanchez.
Prediction:
If you can't stop Sanchez, there's no way you can stop Romo and the 'Boys, 42-28, Dallas
vs
Analysis:
The Redskins have slipped the last two games losing to the Packers last week and Philadelphia the week before that. The most likely cause for the sudden collapse are injuries to both Clinton Portis and Santana Moss, two critical parts of the engine that makes this team go. The Colts, however, don't care who the Redskins are missing. They need a win to stay in the playoff hunt and preying on weakened teams are a perfect way to do just that. The Colts easily defeated the Chiefs last week and won't have trouble against the Redskins either, I believe.
Prediction:
The Colts need a victory and Peyton Manning delivers this week, 31-21, Indianapolis
vs
Analysis:
The Titans are definitely a disappointment this season. At 1-4 they sit tied for last with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC South. They were particularly pathetic on the ground last week only rushing for 25 yards. Not to mention they couldn't stop the Cowboys from scoring. The Jaguars are also 1-4 but that's because they're just a bad team. Since week one they've showed absolutely no defense and just look terrible on the field. It's no wonder why they no longer have an owner.
Prediction:
The Jags get rolled, 54-24, Tennessee
Well that'll do it for this week's edition of weekly predictions, see you for week 7's on Tuesday.
Sorry for the lack of depth this week guys, I've got a sinus infection I'm fighting off. Next week's will be better.
